Polanski's defenders lose sight of the true victim
His victim, who settled a civil case against Polanski for an unspecified amount, said she does not want the man who forced himself on her to serve additional time.
That's big-hearted of her but also irrelevant, and so is the fact that the victim had admitted to having sex with a boyfriend before meeting Polanski.
Polanski stood in a Santa Monica courtroom on Aug. 8, 1977, admitted to having his way with a girl three decades his junior and told a judge that indeed, he knew she was only 13.
There may well have been judicial misconduct.
But no misconduct was greater than allowing Polanski to cop a plea to the least of his charges. His crime was graphic, manipulative and heinous, and he got a pass. It's unbelievable, really, that his soft-headed apologists are rooting for him to get another one.

Time Deserved for a Crime Committed
In any event, the case remains open for one reason: He ran. Mr. Polanski pleaded guilty to having sex with a person under the age of 18, a felony, but he remained free before his sentencing. He was given permission by the judge to travel abroad for some film work, and never came back. So it is unfinished business.
Over the years, he settled a lawsuit brought by the girl. Now a mother in her 40s, the woman gave a statement to the California courts saying she wants the criminal case to go away. “I have survived, indeed prevailed, against whatever harm Mr. Polanski may have caused me as a child,” she said.
Ms. Lloyd said Mr. Polanski has a way to close it out: “Come back. Serve your time. Let this woman get on with her life.”

Roman Polanski's supporters sending wrong message about rape, minimizing director's crimes
David Clohessy, national director of the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests, said he hears echos of "Polanski's apologists" in the scandal over child abuse in the Roman Catholic priests.
"In both cases we have the public and secular authorities giving every benefit of the doubt to clear wrongdoers just by virtue of their exalted positions. You could easily say if Polanski was a priest, he would be easily jailed," Clohessy said. "Somehow if you can make movies, dance well, shoot a basketball, essentially accumulate wealth or power and then you are somehow exempt from the basic societal laws and expectations. By not pursuing Polanski, we send a very disturbing message to criminals. Make yourself popular, get good lawyers, flee the country and you are home free."

Woody Allen, Pedro Almodovar, Costa Gavras, David Lynch, Ettore Scola, Martin Scorsese, Giuseppe Tornatore, Wim Wenders e varios outros diretores, atores, atrizes e pessoas influentes no mundo do Cinema.
